                                               SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

IMPORTANT NOTICE
(Updated active January 9, 2019 onward)
We are now open for Volume III submissions, though we can't  currently guarantee when you will receive a response for your publication decision, as we are still working on compiling the Volume II  edition ! However, we still encourage you to submit and are always happy to receive your work!

WHAT WE LOOK FOR
- we prefer happier stuff, projects that encourage positive thinking & feeling, romance(not erotic or overly sexual), humor,  irony, crazy plot twists,
-references to God are alright, but we prefer a nonreligious focus so that work is relatable to all religions/genders/beliefs, we are liberal thinkers and support LGBTQ, feminism, and minorities, we love work related to fantasy, magic, cultural perspective, etc but we encourage all genres to submit!

Send your best work to papertrainseditor@gmail.com as a .docx, pdf, or jpeg(photos only). In addition, please include a short  artist  biography (describing your  background, awards in the  the humanities, etc) in approximately 80 words or less. Feel free to include a link to your personal literary/art/humanities website, blog, or any other sort of personal project related to your humanities journey. If you are accepted, we may ask for edits, upon which we request you comply with changes within a week of our asking.

We will  critique rejections upon polite request.

SUBMISSION COST &  SUBMITTER  BENEFITS
Submissions are currently free. As a result of this implementation, we are unable to offer monetary payment at this time; However, we offer numerous other benefits including:
-  Exposure for your work
-Link to your own blog or website within your artist biography, which will be published in exchange for your work in the event that we accept your submission.
- Both emerging  & established creators who are accepted may enjoy the benefit of being able to list that they are published within our journal on resumes for both college and job applications. (And maybe a couple of bragging rights within their peer group too. Yay!)

SIMULTANEOUS SUBMISSIONS, REPRINTS, AND PUBLISHING RIGHTS
submitting for the 2019 edition(Dec 20 deadline): We accept simultaneous submissions, but we request that you notify us immediately upon acceptance to another journal. At this time, we do not accept previously published work for our official edition or general feed.

Requirements
Poetry & Short Fiction: 12 pt Times New Roman or Garamond font, word document or PDF file
up to 3 Short Fiction pieces(ideally less than 1,500 words each ,  but we're fairly lenient as long as the quality is good.. In other words, feel free to submit  longer pieces  if you feel  they really fit the theme and caliber of our journal)
Poetry: up to 5 poems (no more than 7 pages)
Photography: Send in up to 10 photos you've captured yourself. If your content is photoshopped, you must let us know in your email and all photos involved in the photoshop must be taken by yourself. Submit in JPEG form only.

You may submit in up to 2 categories per issue. Please date the top of your submission (for documentation purposes).

WHAT WE LOOK FOR
We like all artists, we really do. But there's a certain something that's special about the dedicated listener, the active thinker. What we mean by that is:
1)Submit content that fits our theme! While our journal does not follow a specific genre, we're sort of trying to develop a common vibe within the Paper Tears Community, and certain pieces just fit a similar writing style and give off the same messages that we're looking for. Please read our previously published pieces to determine if the piece you hope to submit best fits with our content.
2)Take your time! Quality creators take their time. This means a writer edits and reedits. This means a dedicated photographer edits & photoshops to their hearts content. These kinds of people, these are the individuals that Paper Tears strives to unite. (Trust us, we can tell the difference between polished fiction and the poem you wrote four minutes before the deadline!)
3) Persistent Submitters, who submit to us even when they were rejected the last issue! Get rejected the first time? Don't worry keep submitting. Get rejected a second time? Submit here again, and make sure to submit to other journals(that permit simultaneous submissions) too! Sometimes the pieces you submit are very good, and may not be what we're looking for in the current issue, or we think they might fit other journals better. All writing and photography is so valuable, regardless of the criteria and level of skill! We have so much faith in you, but you must keep trying. Don't give up hope!

Please refrain from submitting nonfiction/ lengthy biographies/essays at this time.
